Reliability Rides are not races. Long before cyclosportives became popular, reliability rides kept cyclists busy during the “off” season. The idea was to test the reliability of both rider and machine. Reliability Rides have time bands to suit various speeds and abilities, generally certificates are awarded to riders completing the route within their selected time band. The levels of organisation do vary, some routes are waymarked, if not the onus is on the rider to follow a route sheet. Some rides have designated control points en route, others are taken on trust. The challenge remains the same, to complete the route within your chosen time. More recently, reliability rides have become popular amongst racing cyclists as pre-season high-intensity group training rides. VC Sevale Reliability Rides, Sunday Jan. 15th.
